Beauty in the Beast

Theories of Writing 2000

She’s a quiet girl

Curious and refined

She gets lost in her books

Even more in her mind

They say she’s a princess

They call her Belle

But she’s just a girl

Swarming in a fragile shell

Everything changed

One dark and stormy night

She forgot who she was

She was someone she didn’t recognize

The story you’ve heard

They got it all wrong

The beast they feared

Was her all along

She looks in the mirror

And only sees her flaws

She tears at her reflection

With her villainous claws

It’s like happiness is a rose

Trapped in a glass cage

There’s no time to catch it

Plant it before it fades

There’s a little darkness in everyone

Fear and loathing within your walls

But you have to see the light

Before the last petal falls

They say she fell in love

With a monster beyond repair

But the truth is, she learned to love herself

She is kind, she is beautiful, she is rare.
